Charles Allan Thompson Summer Research Award

Scope and Mandate

The Charles Allan Thompson Summer Research Award Endowment Fund was established in memory of Charles Allan Thompson, B.Sc. (Mech.Eng.) 1937, by a bequest from the estate of Edith M. Thompson and is awarded on the basis of financial need and academic achievement to second or third year students in the Faculty of Applied Science. The Award is intended to provide support for students in the Faculty of Applied Science to participate in a summer research program.


This Award will be presented to a deserving student consistent with the following guidelines:

1.            Open to full time students in second or third year of the Faculty of Applied Science program on the basis of financial need, academic achievement, and demonstrated interest in research.

2.            All Queen's student researchers who apply for an NSERC Summer Research Award but are unsuccessful will be automatically considered for this award.

3.            Should the NSERC rules change or the program end, application for this award will be made to the Dean (Faculty of Applied Science).

Funding Details

The award will be a one-time payment of $4,000.00. Three to eight awards are expected to be awarded each year.

Applicants are asked to submit a letter of application, a resume, a written recommendation from a Faculty member who is sponsoring the research, and a description of the research project.
